Neighborhood Update May 11th

Meeting Thursday Night

Join your neighbors (virtually, of course) Thursday, May 14, at 6:30 p.m. for STAWNO’s monthly Board of Directors meeting. All are welcome. Details on how to attend via Zoom technology will be forwarded Wednesday to our email list subscribers

Thank You, Volunteers!

Take a look at STAWNO’s Main Street Median Garden! A huge “thank you” to the more than 10 volunteers who made our May 2 cleanup event a success. Volunteers included Tonya Rootes (below), a resident from The Julia, who had a great time at the cleanup. Watch for the next event announcement and be sure to join us, meet new neighbors, and make a difference — all while practicing social distancing.

Last Call — Buy a Brick

Construction at Boom Island Park on the Memorial to Survivors of Sexual Violence should start back up around June 1, with the project to be completed this summer. View the memorial’s design at www.survivorsmemorial.org.

Donors at the $1,000 level and above will be recognized in permanent bricks at the memorial. This is a last call to donate a brick (tax-deductible). Brick orders will be accepted until Tuesday, May 12. To donate, visit: www.survivorsmemorial.org/donate.

STAWNO is proud that Boom Island Park will be home to the memorial. The neighborhood helped with financing the project, and the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board recently approved use of park dedication fees to pay for a portion of the work.

Support Our 5K Supporters

During the COVID-19 pandemic, please consider supporting the sponsors of STAWNO’s Historic Riverfront 5K Run/Walk fundraiser who have generously been there for our neighborhood. Studio ME, for example, has gone virtual, with group classes on cardio, strength and recovery, a kettlebell bootcamp program, and private 1-on-1 training. Check out the other sponsors on our home page.
