What's Coming Up

The Saint Anthony West

Neighborhood Organization (STAWNO)

Welcome, Bienvenido, Soo Dhaweyn

On a walk or by bicycle, enjoy a visit to the historic Saint Anthony neighborhood. Take some time to walk along the mighty Mississippi River, visit one of many regional and neighborhood parks, enjoy an incredible view of the downtown skyline, and admire the architecture of the places of worship built by immigrants.

To meet the residents of the neighborhood, stop by the Northeast Farmers Market on a Saturday morning, bring a lawn chair to Dickman Park and enjoy July summer of fun activities, or volunteer at our Historic Saint Anthony 5K run/walk fundraiser in October at Boom Island Park.

STAWNO has long helped bring neighbors together to promote the livability of the neighborhood. Over the past several decades, STAWNO coordinated millions of dollars in loans to rehabilitate homes, investments that changed peoples lives and promoted the health of the neighborhood. STAWNO is also a forum for residents to raise their questions and comments and learn about happenings in the neighborhood and city at large.

A new era is upon us; one marked by the positive challenges of growth as the number of households in our neighborhood has increased from 1,250 in 2015 to about 1,800 in 2021 with the addition of over 500 apartments. STAWNO understands that our success in the new era will depend on engagement efforts more modern, more inclusive, and more flexible than the tools used in the past. Board members Alisa Mulhair and Ella Mitchell will lead STAWNO’s effort to develop these new ways to connect with neighbors through the creation of a recommended engagement plan to be provided to the full Board by the fall of 2021. Ella commented that “this is an important commitment for the organization, one that is about equity, social justice, and supporting ways for all to have a seat at the table for decisions in the neighborhood.”

Eblasts are currently the best way to stay connected so please sign-up to receive news, announcements, and meeting notices. And, we encourage you to help develop the engagement plan – watch the eblasts for meeting dates.
