Historic Riverfront 5K Run/Walk

The Historic Riverfront 5K Run/Walk takes you through historic Minneapolis along the Mississippi River. Tracing a scenic path over the Stone Arch Bridge and back along the Plymouth Avenue Bridge, participants make a loop around the riverfront. It is the perfect time of year to see fall colors, and the beauty of our tree canopy, river, and cityscape. The race starts/ends at Boom Island Park (700 Sibley Street NE)

Enjoy Kramarczuk's famous brats hot off the grill at the finish. Cheer for all the winners as Mill City Running sponsors prizes. And all participants receive 5K branded swag!

Whether you participate as a timed chip runner or assemble a group walk, it is a historic route that everyone enjoys. Dogs and strollers are always welcome!

Proceeds benefit social and civic programming by the St. Anthony West Neighborhood Organization and the Sheridan Neighborhood Organization (sno.org) –two of the oldest neighborhoods in Minneapolis.

COMMUNITY GATHERING TO EXPAND THE NORTH HERITAGE TRAIL along the Mississippi River of the St. Anthony Falls Heritage Zone (the pathways between Hennepin Ave Bridge and Plymouth Bridge, east and west banks of the Mississippi River, including Boom Island, B.F. Nelson Park, Nicollet Island, the former mouth of Bassett Creek.)

-Are you interested in history related to the Mississippi River above St. Anthony Falls?
-Do you want to see the elevation of Dakota history? What Métis families were leaders in early trading?
-Who were the African Americans that helped to build Minneapolis, working on and along the River?
-What interpretation ideas do you have for the success of this project?

This is the second funding from St. Anthony Falls Heritage Falls Board, in collaboration with the Minneapolis Park Board (MPRB) and the Minnesota Historical Society (MHS) and the St. Anthony West Neighborhood Organization (STAWNO) to broaden historical understanding, by including BIPOC stories on the North Heritage Trail.

North Heritage Trail Meeting

This project is to expand the North Heritage Trail–with monuments, sculptures, and/or information kiosks on the Mississippi from Hennepin to Plymouth on both sides of the river. Please join us on Thursday, Aug 10 at the Ukrainian American Community Center at 5 pm to discuss the potential monuments to be funded in future years.

NOTE: Even though Graco is not included in this discussion the Park Board will potentially use some of the suggestions brought forth at this meeting for the North Heritage Trail expansion.
